A source guide to Thai communities in the UK, separating nationality, birthplace, ethnicity and census dates.
Rules and sources checked: 5 November 2026. General information; confirm the rules for your application date.
Thai nationality, Thailand-born residents, Thai ethnicity and Thai-speaking residents are different populations. The England and Wales census was held in 2021; Scotland’s latest census was in 2022. Adding an old Scottish figure to an England-and-Wales figure does not create a valid current UK total.
Use the ONS extended country-of-birth tables for Thailand-born usual residents in England and Wales, and the separate Scottish census tables for Scotland. Record the census date and geography with each figure. Visa grants and annual arrivals cannot be added to a census stock without accounting for departures, deaths, repeat grants and changes in status. There is no verified 2026 UK-wide count in the sources cited here.
Source: Home Office entry-clearance datasets released 27 August 2026, covering 1 July 2025–30 June 2026. Figures for the first two quarters of 2026 are provisional. Counts are by nationality and decision period, not residence, unique people, an agent’s customers or the outcome of applications made in the same period.
Grant share = visas issued ÷ (issued + refused). Withdrawn and lapsed cases are excluded. Applications are a separate series and must not be used as the denominator for a decision-period success rate. This is a description of recorded outcomes, not your personal chance of approval or evidence that an agency caused the result.
